The high speed rotor 23 in a laser polygon mirror drive motor assembly has conically tapered ends 23r supported by conical plain bearings. At least one of the bearings is adjustable with respect to the casing 10 so that the gap between the shaft and bearing can be easily adjusted. The adjustment means may comprise a threaded bearing housing 31; additionally or alternatively there may be spring-biassed preloading. The housing 31 is sealed and contains magnetic oil 50. <IMAGE>
