CLEANER FOR OPTICAL RECORDING APPARATUS

A cleaner cleans optical components in an optical data storage apparatus, and in particular the object lens and other components in a separation-type optical head. The cleaner comprises a body (23) shaped like a cartridge for the optical medium. A cleaning head (27) is mounted on the end of a rotary drive member (31) which extends through the body (23). A brush (28) extends at right angles to the axis of rotation of the head and in use, cleans the object lens. Further brushes (26) extend parallel to the axis of rotation and in use, clean cover glasses on the projection window of the fixed optical base and on the opposing portion of the transfer base which carries the object lens. Magnets (29, 30) may be provided in the body to secure it in use to the transfer base.
