PRODUCTION OF CARRIER HONEYCOMB BODY FOR EXHAUST GAS PURIFYING CATALYST

PURPOSE:To produce a honeycomb body excellent in characteristics by forming an aluminum coating film after applying a high temp. brazing filler metal on the abutting part of a belt material constituting the honeycomb body and performing brazer-joining and diffusion penetration of Al by heating in a vacuum or non-oxidative atmosphere to efficiently incorporate an Al enriching means. CONSTITUTION:The honeycomb body H having many mesh type air vent passages 3 in the axial direction is produced by folding or laminating a corrugated belt material 2 made of a thin metallic plate single or the corrugated belt material and a planar belt material 1 so as to be abutted on each other. Then, a brazing part consisting of the abutting part of the corrugated belt materials 2 of the honeycomb body on each other or the abutting part of the corrugated belt material 2 with the planar belt material 1 is applied with a brazing filler metal and the aluminum coating film 5 is formed on the part of honeycomb body H including the brazing part. Furthermore, the brazing part is brazer joined and aluminum is diffused in the belt material by heating the honeycomb body H in a vacuum or non-oxidative atmosphere.
