PURPOSE: To obtain a seam welding machine capable of controlling the force generated in a clamping device so as not to receive the restriction on a structural length and welding work length which are heretofore inevitable. CONSTITUTION: Both upper pressure beams 24 and both lower pressure beams 25 are arranged at upper and lower rigid longitudinal girders 20 and 21 of respective one fixed position. Both longitudinal girders are rigidly coupled to each other and at least both upper pressure beams 24 are made respectively movable upward and downward by a lifting mechanism 26 with respect to the upper longitudinal girder 20 and the respective upper and lower pressure beams 24 and 25 have longitudinal direction guide mechanisms 43 which extend toward a weld axis Z, a carriage 60 which is guided along the longitudinal direction guide mechanisms and support clamping members 50 and 51, and feed units 40 and 41 which consist of linear drive assemblies 75 to 78 of a reversible type connected to the carriage.
