DESALANINEBENANOMICIN A DERIVATIVE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide a new compound having antifungal activity. CONSTITUTION:The derivative of formula I (R is 2-5C alkyl, 2-5C hydroxyalkyl, etc.) and its salt, e.g. (2'R, 3'S)-3'-hydroxy-3'-methylbenanomicin A. The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by culturing an actinomycete, Actinomadura spadix MH193-16FA strain (FERM P-9529) to obtain benanomicin A, protecting the terminal carboxyl group of the 2-side chain of the benanomicin A with an ester-forming group, protecting and imino-etherifying nine hydroxyl groups, removing the hydroxyl- and carboxy-protecting groups to obtain an iminoether compound, refluxing the compound in a mixture of acetone and water to effect the cleavage reaction, reacting and condensing the resultant desalaninebenanomicin A of formula II with a compound of formula III (R is H, 1-5C alkyl, etc.) and converting the group R of the resultant derivative of formula IV to R.
