IMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a new imidazole derivative capable of exhibiting excellent angiotensin II antagonism and useful as preventing and treating agents for hypertension. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I or formula II (R<1> is lower alkyl; R'' is H, CN, lower alkyl, lower alkanoyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, phenyl-lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkylsulfonyl, phenyl which may be substituted or nitrogen-containing 5-6 membered heteromonocyclic group-substituted carbonyl; COOR, COOR<3> and COOR<4> are carboxyl which may be protected; m is 0 or 1) or its pharmacologically permissible salt, e.g. 2-n-butyl-8-ethoxycarbonyl-9- hydroxy-1-(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) methyl-1,4,5,9a-tetrahydro-7H-imidazo[4,5- g]indolizin-7-one. The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting a compound of formula III with a compound of formula IV and if desired, removing protecting groups of carboxyl groups.
