<p>PURPOSE:To diagnose failure of a system with accuracy in an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine in which warming-up of a catalyst is promoted by electrifying a heater. CONSTITUTION:A heater 24 is turned on (Step 42, 46) when an idle switch 35 is on (Step 41) and a catalyst bed temperature 29 is lower than a specified value. When the catalyst bed temperature 29 remains less than the specified value even after this state continues for a specified time, the heater is turned off (Step 41, 42, 45, 48), and a diagnosis lamp 34 is lighted (Step 49).</p> |
