PURPOSE: To improve donor storage stability by carrying a dye layer on a support, the dye layer comprising a mixture of cyan, magenta and yellow dyes denoted by specific general formulas. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of at least each one kind of cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes dispersed in a polymeric binder is carried on a support to obtain a desired black dye donor element for thermal dye transfer. The cyan, yellow and magenta dyes are denoted by formulas I, II and III, respectively, where R<1> and R<2> are each hydrogen or the like, R<3> is hetaryl or the like, (m) is an integer of 0 to 4, R<4> and R<5> are each hydrogen or the like, R<6> is alkyl or the like, R<8> is the group same as R<1> , R<9> and R<10> are each acyloxy or the like, R<11> is the group same as R<8> , G is aryl group or the like, X is S or the like, Y is an atom necessary for completing a five- or six-membered ring, R<15> is hydrogen or the like, Q is alkoxy group or the like, R<16> is aryl group or the like, R<20> is alkyl group or the like, J is CO or the like, and R<17> is aryl group or the like. |
