<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound which is a raw material, etc., for radiation-sensitive components for resists by reacting resorcinol with 4- isopropenylphenols in the presence of a specific acidic catalyst in a specified solvent. CONSTITUTION:One mol resorcinol is made to react with <1.3mol, preferably 0.8-1.1mol at least one phenolic compound selected from 4-isopropenylphenol and its linear polymer in the presence of a hydrohalogenic acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid or hydrobromic acid) in a nonpolar solvent or a mixture solvent of the nonpolar solvent with a polar solvent to afford the objective 2-(2,4- dihydroxyphenyl)-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane expressed by the formula. The catalyst is used in an amount within the range of preferably 0.01-1.5wt.%, especially 0.03-1.0wt.% based on the reactional system. The compound expressed by the formula is useful as a raw material and a curing agent for epoxy resins.</p> |
