PURPOSE:To improve efficiency for utilizing light at the liquid crystal display element for television and computer. CONSTITUTION:Liquid crystal 107 is held therebetween by glass substrates 104 and 105 and further, a lens array substrate 108 is stuck corresponding to display picture elements 110. The lens array substrate 108 forms fine lens 102 and 103 with difference focal distances on both sides while matching lens optical axes. Therefore, parallel illumination beams 101 are converted to parallel beams having fine beam diameters by the fine lens 102 and 103 and made incident on a valid liquid crystal display part 109. Thus, no loss occurs. On the other hand, the beams are fixedly made incident on the liquid crystal 107, and there is no problem that contrast is lowered by the incidental angle dependency of light crystal. Further, since the beams are emitted as parallel beams, there is no problem that a part of those beams is not made incident on a projective lens. |
