PURPOSE:To change a backlight turn-on range corresponding to surrounding brightness, to reduce energy consumption and to enable long-time drive by partially turning on/off backlight and executing an application processing while utilizing only the display part of backlight-on. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with plural backlight sources 22a and 22b, power controllers 17a and 17b to control the power supply of the light sources, and display managing program to switch picture display modes. A display area 21 is laterally divided, and the respective divided areas are respectively lighted up by the plural backlight sources 22a and 22b. The power controllers 17 exist as many as the backlight sources 22 and independently control power supply to the respective light sources 22a and 22b. The display managing program switches the physical number of lines on a screen by applying an instruction to the power controllers 17 and switches the display modes by changing the logical number of lines on the screen. |
