The invention relates to a device with retracting castor making it possible to move a seat, an armchair or a sofa. The said seat generally includes two fixed legs, two legs equipped with castors, the device according to the invention being fixed to the frame (2) of the seat via a cylindrical sleeve (1). A spindle (4) supporting the castor (5) including a transverse finger (4a) can move rotationally and translationally inside the sleeve (1). A cam secured to the sleeve (1) includes two helical ramps (6a) on which the finger (4a) of the support spindle (4) moves and converts the rotational movement of the spindle into a translational movement by action on an operating lever (7). Since the castor (5) bears on the ground, the seat is thus raised up. A spring (10) keeps the support spindle (4) in the up position of rest. <IMAGE>
