PURPOSE:To enable measurement of surface performance of a magnetic recording medium and to obtain tribological information by measuring a constitutive component of a magnetic layer or a rotational fluctuation changed delicately by a surface property. CONSTITUTION:A micrometer 5 is brought into contact with a magnetic head 3 via a load spring 4 for the purpose of changing a contact load of the head 3 against a magnetic disk 2, and the contact load is evaluated from a displacement amt. of the micrometer 5 and a spring constant. The rotational fluctuation of the disk 2 is obtained by calculating a standard deviation value in such a manner that the contact load is set to be 3-5g, and a constant frequency is recorded on the disk by a read/write circuit 6, while a reproducing output time interval of one round of a track is transferred and stored to a personal computer 8 via a time interval analyzer 7. Secondly, the contact load is set as 10-30g, and the deviation value is obtained in the same manner. Then, a ratio of both standard deviation values of time intervals is calculated, and the surface performance of the magnetic recording medium of the magnetic disk is appraised. |
