Stoppering device or corking machine comprising two jaws 10, 11-40, 41 articulated on one another and equipped with handles 42, 43, the said jaws having semi-cylindrical housings capable of constituting a chamber for compression of a stopper when the jaws are substantially adjacent to each other. It comprises means 30, 31-60, 80 ensuring only the immobilisation of the said jaws with respect to each other in the position of the latter corresponding to the compression of the stopper. Application to the stoppering of bottles for domestic use or for use in small operations. <IMAGE>
