USE OF RETENTION AIDS IN THE MAKING OF PAPER CONTAINING ABRASIVE PARTICLES AND ABRASION RESISTANT DECORATIVE LAMINATES MADE THEREFROM

Abrasive particles are incorporated in the top sheet of paper used for producing decorative laminate during the process of depositing paper furnish on the forming wire of a paper making machine. An aqueous slurry of the abrasive particles and a retention aid such as a cationic, high molecular weight polyacrylamide retention aid is deposited on an upper layer of paper furnish on the forming wire.
