PURPOSE: To prolong the life of a switch by preventing a control electrode load, regarding a low pressure gas discharge switch which is provided with an anode and a cathode and has the product (p)×(d) (wherein d stands for the distance between both electrodes and p for the operational gas pressure) existing in the left side of the voltage minimun value in Paschen's curve and of which the rear part space of a cathode is surrounded with a cap type control electrode 10 connected with a trigger voltage source. CONSTITUTION: A main electrode 2 in the side facing to a control electrode 10 has a hole 4 along a discharge route 8 and a collision plate 20 for ion flow of low pressure gas discharge is installed at a prescribed distance from the surface of the main electrode between the hole 4 and the control electrode 10.
