Self-locking device between an element which can move along the chassis (4) and a pivoting road-going supporting structure (8) carried by the chassis (4) and actuated in terms of pivoting by a tipper (9) with a scissor stay or thrust cylinder (ram), one of the elements or the base of which rests on a movable cross-member (11). The edges of the side rails of the supporting structure (8) and the upper face of the movable element are equipped with mechanical stop blocks suitably shaped to provide locking between the chassis (4) and the support structure (8) in the lowered position of the latter. This invention is of interest to the constructors of utility vehicles, particularly break-down trucks. <IMAGE>
