A parallel track recording system for hard discs used as mass storage in computer system has multiple heads permanently positioned above the tracks. The heads are mounted in radial supports that can be spaced at 90, 120 or 180 degree intervals. The disc controller can generate signals to allow the heads to be switched on a track by track basis. The height of the heads above the disc is accurately controlled using a piezo regulating unit. ADVANTAGE - Eliminates head positioning time for rapid access.
