Vehicular headlamp with prismatic refractors in reflector aperture - changes distribution of beam to comply with alternative guidelines by having superpositioned subsidiary refractor

The filament (11) of the headlamp is positioned at the focus of a reflector (1), in whose aperture a main glass or plastic refractor (2) is bonded with an array of vertically aligned cylindrical lenses (6) on its interior surface. At one side of the refractor an array of prismatic strips (8) is arranged to ensure that the upper limit of the projected beam is lower on the opposite side of the road. A subsidiary refractor (3) with larger prismatic strips (10) can be superimposed to obtain a different beam distribution. ADVANTAGE - Compliance with different countries' guidelines w.r.t. light distribution can be achieved without replacement of main refractor.
