Method, and appts., of filtering a gas stream to remove liq. or solid particulate contaminants entrained therein, comprises feeding the gas stream together with a jet of liq. filter medium, to impart to the gas stream and the liq. filter medium a cyclonic/rotary motion to form a twin compound vortex having an outer liq. strata and an inner gaseous strata moving at the same velocity by which a substantialproportion of the contaminants are transferred from the gaseous phase to the liq. phase, and discharging the gas stream/liq. filter medium contaminants mixt. as a single entity.
