<p>An apparatus for the manipulation and display of digital video and audio includes a plug-in board for a personal computer and provides real-time digital video and audio digitization. The video is digitized by a video digitizer (16) and converted to RGB, compressed using a hardware compression processor (17), and written to the computer system disk, capturing the video in real-time. Concurrent to the video capture, an audio data convertor (19) digitizes two channels of audio (20). This data is buffered in RAM memory on the board, where it can then be transferred to the computer system disk. The board also supports the playback of video and audio at real-time rates. Compressed video data is transferred from the computer system disk to the board, where it is decompressed by the compression processor (17).</p> |
