A device, for removing liq. contaminants (esp. oil), from water surfaces, consits of a mat-like body of a fibrous oil-binding material (pref. compressed mineral wool) which is laid of the water surface, the novelty being that a floating ring (10) is arranged around the outer edge of teh mat-like body (11) and supports a net (12) which grips the body (11) without play to fix the body to the floating ring. ADVANTAGE - Stability of the device, esp. on rough seas, is improved so taht the efficiency is increased and manipulation of the device is facilitated.
