Softening water used in e.g. dishwashing machine - with controlled magnetic field at water flow directly before ion exchange unit

In softening water, where it passes through an ion exchanger (3) using a suitable material and pref. sodium chloride, it passes through a magnetic field directly before softening. The water pref. passes through a magnetic field which has an intensity which is altered in periods, and the polarity of the magnetic field is reversed in periods at the unit (4) where the magnetic field is applied to the water directly before it enters the ion exchanger (3). USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is partic. for water which is to be used in an appliance, such as a clothes or dish washing machine and the like, to prevent scale build-up. The magnetic field modifies the structure of the lime particles to give a lower salt consumption with savings of about 50%.
