A toolholder insert (5) is rotatable about the workpiece axis (3) in bearings (4) of the toolholder (1). Rotatably mounted in the toolholder insert (5) is a tool spindle (13) whose axis (10) is eccentric by the offset of the drilled hole. At the front end of the spindle is a twist drill (12) and at the rear end a pinion (17) meshing with an internal ring gar (18) fixed in the toolholder. An axially spring-loaded driving bracket (6,7,15) extending from the front of the toolholder insert has pegs (9) which engage with the workpiece and drive the toolholder insert round with the workpiece. At the same time the twist drill is driven about its own axis (10) by the planetary gear pair (17,18). USE - Permits machining of offset holes in rotating workpiece. An inversion of the process in which the toolholder insert is held stationary permits holes located behind an obstruction to be drilled.
