<p>Apparatus is disclosed for playing a ball game which, in one specific example, is based on the game of football. A number of vehicles (19), each of which is self-propelled and is driven by an engine accompanied by its own fuel supply reservoir, bump a relatively large and low-pressure-inflated ball (12) about the pitch. The vehicles are divided into two competing teams each of which aims to score more goals than the other in the conventional footballing way. The vehicles (11) are three-wheeled trike-style vehicles whose engines (27, 28) are mounted low down in the vehicle chassis, between the two spaced apart common axis wheels (25, 26) and drive the single steerable front wheel (33). The front wheel is steered by a steering wheel rather than by handle-bars. The vehicles' wheels run or low pressure balloon tyres and these constitute the sole travel-cushioning means. The posts (14, 15) which define the goal comprise individual uprights with no connecting cross-bar and no net. Each of the uprights is sufficiently resiliently deformable as to allow one of the vehicles to be driven into it, and even over it, and the post will still spring resiliently upright again once the vehicle has gone away.</p> |
