The pillar (14) is held on a base (10), via a support frame (12). This has a lower fixed-length support (46), which is connected via a first joint (50,52), to a first connection section (54). The section is connected to the lower part of the pillar. The joint is adjustable in longitudinal direction of the pillar. The first connection section has one or more joint parts (52). Each of these may be selectively connected to a counter joint part (50), which is carried by the support. The joint parts have bores, and the ends of the bores are connected by a guide groove. A hinge pin forming the counter joint moves in the groove. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pillar of auger drill can be held at varying heights above ground, without alterations to support frame.
