A self-extinguishing cigarette is made from tobacco (6) wrapped in the usual type of cigarette paper (1). Near the mouthpiece end (6) of the cigarette, the cigarette paper is enclosed in a short sleeve (7) of incombustible material which is also non-smouldering. In addition the material of this short sleeve possesses a high thermal conductivity. The sleeve may be attached to the cigarette paper before the cigarette is formed or it may be wrapped around an already formed cigarette. The sleeve may be placed inside the cigarette paper if desired. USE/ADVANTAGE - Self-extinguishing cigarette which reduces the risk of fire from cigarette ends which are carelessly disposed of.
