The invention relates to 2-pyridone derivatives of general formula (I) in which Ar<1> is an optionally substituted phenyl ring; Ar<2> is an optinally substituted phenyl ring; R<1> is hydrogen or C1-4alkyl; R<2> is hydrogen or C1-4alkyl; R<3> is hydrogen or C1-4alkyl; R<4> and R<5> are the same or different and are each hydrogen, C1-4alkyl or C1-4alkylAr<1>, or R<4> and R<5> together form a group (CH=CH)2; and X is CH2 or NR<6> in which R<6> is hydrogen or C1-4alkyl or a salt thereof, and their use in therapy as gastric acid secretion inhibitors.
