<p>An electroluminescent display has a viewing surface with electroluminescent cells (30, 32, 34, 36) arranged in a dot matrix array over the surface, each cell having a height orthogonal to the surface from five to ten times any dimension parallel to the surface and each cell (30) having electrodes (51, 55) on opposite sides to apply an electrical field across the cell parallel to the surface of the display. The dimension between the electrodes is no more than two microns, allowing the display to operate at low voltage levels. Thin film and thick film methods for constructing the display are disclosed.</p> |
