Climbing devices are attachable to the footwear or to be used as a hand hold to aid in climbing trees. Each device includes a rigid "U" shaped member with projections into the opening of "U" shaped member which is attached at an upward inclined angle to a support frame held to the feet with an elastic strap. The projections closest to the instep do not penetrate into the tree surface and the "U" shaped member engages the tree trunk as the person climbs up and down the tree.
