PURPOSE:To obtain a high-purity R2Fe17Cx compd. excellent in magnetic properties by holding a produced R2Fe17 compd. (R is a rare-earth element) at a specified temp. in a gaseous mixture of inert gas and hydrocarbons. CONSTITUTION:Pure Fe and pure R are melted to produce an R2Fe17 compd., the compd. is crushed, and the obtained powder is heated at 550-650 deg.C in the gaseous mixture of argon and hydrocarbons and subjected to a reaction. The purity and magnetic properties are enhanced by this process in comparison to the conventional process, and an R2Fe17Cx compd. is obtained as the raw material for an R2Fe17CxNy compd. having higher magnetic properties. The reaction is carried out between the solid and gas phases, the R2Fe17 compd. does not react sufficiently with the gaseous hydrocarbons at <550 deg.C, the R2Fe17 Cx compd. produced is redecomposed at >650 deg.C, and the R2Fe17Cx compd. is not obtained in both cases. |
