PURPOSE: To provide a belt pretensioner in a safety belt system for a vehicle capable of reducing a space request, material and assembling cost by eliminating necessity of installing an independent vehicle-sensitive inertial mass. CONSTITUTION: The belt pretensioner 12 is equipped with a piston/cylinder linear drive mechanism 18 which is activatable by a pyrotechnical gas generator and which is arranged in a support housing 32 pivotally between a rest position and a triggering position. The mechanism 18 forms a vehicle-sensitive inertial mass which is loaded by ;spring bias in the direction of the rest position and movable by deceleration-induced inertial forces into the triggering position. The gas generator is provided with a percussion ignitor. A spring-loaded striking member 46 which has an anvil for striking against the percussion ignitor and is held in a readiness position by engagement on a holding surface of the mechanism 18 is mounted on the support housing 32. |
