PURPOSE:To improve the material yield and the rate of effective utilization of scarfing energy, to save labor and further, to scarf defective parts with high accuracy at high speed. CONSTITUTION:In the defective part scarfing method to melt and remove the defective parts 3 of the long-sized metallic material 1, after the peripheral areas including defects are preheated, the defective parts 3 are irradiated with a laser beam 5 and oxygen gas or gaseous mixture containing oxygen is blown against the irradiated point. Since the peripheral areas including the defects are preheated, the defective parts 3 can be scarfed by the laser beam having the little output. In addition, since the laser beam 5 is condensed on the narrow ranges of the defective parts 3, it is avoided to scarf up to unnecessary parts other than the defective parts. |
