PURPOSE:To provide a cationic high-molecular-weight compound which can be synthesized by the 1 pot process in an organic solvent and is suitable for an antistatic silver halide photographic light sensitizer by using a cationic high- molecular-weight compound bearing a quaternary ammonium group as a side group. CONSTITUTION:The objective cationic high-molecular-weight compound is composed of the formula (R<1>, R<2> are H, 1 to 6C alkyl; L<1>, L<2> are -COO-, -CONH-; J is 1 to 20 C alkylene, 1 to 20 C aralkylene; R<3> to R<5> are 1 to 20 C alkyl; X<-> is anion; A is monomer residue; n is 2 or more; Y is monovalent organic bond group; B is ethylenically unsaturated group; D is monomer residue; p+q+r+s:100 where p is 1 to 99wt.%, q is 0.5 to 70wt.%, r is 1 to 40wt.% and s is 0 to 98wt.%).
