Corresponding ends of rods (20,64) preferably of square cross-sectional shape, are clamped by initially-separated halves of clamps (10; 10,15; 50,51) said halves becoming connected permanently to one another by a nut/bolt combination (30,31,32; 53,54,56,57,58) of which the nut(32;57) has a drive head (30,56) which shears off when the connection has been properly made. The clamp halves (50,51) may be made by drop-stamping and the rods (64) may be made from hot-rolled steel bars. Alternatively, the clamp halves (10; 10,15) may be made as pressings and the rods (20) may be made from cold-drawn steel bars. The clamp halves may have decorative covers (15). |
