The present invention relates to a method for gripping and manipulating an optical fibre in order to seize the said fibre in a direction called the gripping direction, and then to manipulate it, characterised in that it comprises the following steps: - the said fibre (5) is fastened to one end (2) of a heating element (1) using a suitable metal alloy heated by means of the said heating element (1) in order to weld the said end (2) of the said heatng element (1) to a portion of the surface of the said fibre (5); - the said heating element (1) ceases to be heated; - the said fibre (5) is manipulated by moving the said heating element (1); - the said heating element (1) is unfastened from the said fibre (5) by heating the said heating element once the said manipulations have been completed. <IMAGE>
