The air cushion is formed from two flexible sheets (1,2), the intermediate space of which is divided into air chambers, which form a cohesive air space. One of the air chambers is formed as an air pump (5). The air pump chamber at one end has a sunken check valve (6) for sucking in air and at the other end a similar valve (8) on the inside for discharge of air in the cohesive air space. The air pump (5) contains an elastic sprung body (9) which strives to bring the pump back to its hollow shape after having been compressed. In a corner opposite to the air pump is a lowerable and adjustable excess pressure valve. The flexible sheets are made of air-impermeable plastic or natural material.
