An optical switching matrix includes interconnection guides (G1-1,... G4-4) extending into a crossover area (R) and forming therein crossovers for interconnecting two switching assemblies (CA, CB) external to this area. According to the present invention, the two switching assemblies (CA, CB) are arranged on the same side of the crossover area (R), the interconnection guides (G1-1,... G4-4) having shapes of open loops for interconnecting these two assemblies. This invention applies especially in telecommunications networks. <IMAGE>
