The supporting structure for borehole drilling rods, probes and measuring instruments (20) comprises a frame which is mounted above ground level, and drives to sink or retrieve the rods, probes or instruments. The frame comprises one section (1,2,6) which is fixed relative to the borehole, and a mobile section (3,4) which contains or carries the drives and is able to move on or relative to the fixed section. The frame's fixed section incorporates one and pref. two guide rails or sliders (2,6) on which the moving section is able to travel when actuated by hydraulic or mechanical drive systems. The moving section of the frame has at least two vertical supports and one or more cross-beams (4) linking their upper ends. The supports are equipped with sliders (9), mechanically or hydraulically operated, to vary the height of the moving section.
