The security system uses identification modules (5, 6) that cannot be easily removed. In one version a module based upon a bar-code element is bonded either to the surface of the rear window or between the layers of glass. A second module can be bonded into the body structure at the time of manufacture. The bar-code may be read with a hand held reader. An alternative identification module has built in prom memory coupled to a transmitter and is powered by solar cells. ADVANTAGE - Provides rapid identification system that is protected against manipulation.
