Bonding of difficult-to-bond surfaces of plastic components - involves heating surface of first component, treating with solvent and bringing into contact, pref. with liq. adhesive on treated surface

Prior to bonding a first plastic component (6) the surface of which is difficult to bond, to the surface of the first component (4) is briefly heated and then treated with a solvent (8) e.g. cyclohexane. Both components surfaces (1,4) are brought into contact with each other. In a preferred process, a liq. adhesive (9) e.g. acrylic or cyanoacrylate is coated onto the solvent treated surfaces before mutual contact. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is used to bond the end of a tube, pref. a medical catheter to an adaptor or extension. Plastic components mfd. in materials, difficult to bond can easily bonded together in a simple process giving good bond strength.
