A spinning frame has a series of spinning positions with drafting rollers. There is also provision for sliver delivery from a card can at each position. Both of the drafting rollers and sliver delivery have means to stop prodn. in the event of a yarn break. The yarn sensor controls the operation. Pref. the spinning frame has a series of spinning positions with drafting rollers to acccept the silver. This is positioned near each spinning unit in a card can, and is guided from the can to the input funnel, by an endless band which is driven by the roller. The centre is driven from a drive shaft in the same manner as the centre (34) for the bottom input roller of the drafting zone. Both these rollers have a clutch engagement with a tubular outer circumference which can be disengaged by means of air pressure, which is supplied along the tubes from the controlled source. The control is in turn actuated by the yarn sensor, which may be placed to sense the presence of the yarn. The sliver is prevented from accummulating around rollers, which would case damage. On recommencement of operation, when the break has been pieced, there is immediate availability of fibre to continue spinning.
