Quinazoline-3-alkanoic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I), R = H or carboxy protecting gp.; R1 = lower alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, halo, phenyl (opt. substd. by 1-3C lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo, CF3, carboxyethyl (or ethoxycarbonylethyl), naphthyl, heterocyclyl (opt. substd. by 1-3C alkyl,), cycloalkyl or benzyl (opt. substd. by lower alkyl or halo); R2, R3 = H, halo, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, opt. substd. aralkyl, NO2, imidazolyl, imidazolylmethyl or NR4R5; R4, R5 = H or lower alkyl; or NR4R5 = 5 or 6 membered heterocyclyl opt. contg. other heteroatoms; X = CO, CS or CH2 (opt. substd. by lower alkyl); and n = 1-3.
