Prodn. of a raw material from extracted sugar beet slices comprises pretreating the sugar beet slices with a processing fluid to remove unwanted material. The pretreatment occurs in a fluid bed machine where the slices are rotated carefully with the fluid to retain the fibrous structure. The process fluid level is reduced and the beet slices are sprayed with a specific fluid before being sepd. from each other and then dried. The process fluid is treated and cleaned before being recirculated. USE - For prepn. of sugar beet slices which can be consumed.
