<p>PURPOSE: To minimize the time required to complete a shift by reducing fuel supplied to an engine, disconnecting a non-positive coupling, shifting a main section to neutral, downshifting an auxiliary section, coupling the non-positive coupling again, and supplying fuel to the engine again. CONSTITUTION: Sensing requirement for a compound power downshift and responding to the sensing of the requirement for the compound power downshift, a control device reduces fuel supplied to an engine 16, disconnects a nonpositive coupling 10, shifts a main section to neutral, downshifs an auxiliary section, retains the main section in neutral while the auxiliary section is being shfted, couples the non-positive coupling ring 10 again, and accelerates the rotation of the main section member up to the target rotation speed by supplying fuel to the engine 16 again. This reduces the time required to complete the compound power downshift.</p> |
