PURPOSE:To efficiently remove nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine of a car engine such as a gasoline engine or a diesel engine or the industrial plant used in the boiler industry. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst compsn. is obtained by supporting at least one kind of a metal selected from manganese, iron, cobalt and zinc on at least one kind of metal oxide selected from cerium oxide, lanthnum oxide, neodymium oxide and samarium oxide. Nitrogen oxides are removed by passing exhaust gas in an oxidizing atomosphere state in the presence of hydrocarbons through the catalyst. |
