PURPOSE: To provide an improved impact detector by movably setting a shaking body disposed at a non-displacing position by tension balanced with an electrostatic force to the body displacing position when an impact force of sufficient amount is applied to the electrostatic force. CONSTITUTION: When the impact force having sufficient magnitude and continuing time in upward suitable direction of an impact detector is applied to the detector, the inertial reaction and electrostatic force of a shaking body 18 become larger than the tension applied by a beam 20, and the body 18 moves toward a batch plate 16 (to the operating displacing position). In this case, switch contacts 40, 50 are closed with one another to operate the operating circuit of a passenger protecting unit. When the contacts 40, 50 are once closed, the contacts remain latched by the electrostatic force applied between conductor layers 32 and 42. After a predetermined time period, the voltage between the layers 32 and 42 is reduce the electrostatic force to the tension or less applied by the beam 20 and hence the tension returns the body 18 to the static non- displacing position. |
