APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING PREFORM MATERIAL OF OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide the subject apparatus for producing a preform material of an optical fiber, capable of avoiding problems about corrosion without making the size of the apparatus large. CONSTITUTION:A long hole 13 is made in the burner 5 side wall of a reaction chamber 1 in the longitudinal direction of a base material 2 of an optical fiber preform material and a burner 5 capable of performing a reciprocating motion in the longitudinal direction is set through the long hole 13. An expansion and contraction sealing wall 14 capable of contracting the part existing in the forward direction from the burner 5 and of expanding its opposite side part so as to close the hole is attached to the long hole 13. The expansion and contraction sealing wall 14 is composed of sealing members 15 having a U-shaped cross section and alternately slidably engaged with each other. The burner 5 is set through the sealing members 15 in the center of the sealing wall 14. A reciprocation mechanism 6 capable of moving the burner 5 forward and backward in the longitudinal direction of the base material 2 of the optical fiber preform material is equipped outside the reaction chamber 1.
