A cylinder lock and key combination has a lock cylinder with a cylinder housing 2 and a core 3 with a key slot 3a and a series of pins 5. The pins 5 have a circular flange 5a and the side surface of the key 4 has a groove of varying width along its length for receiving the flanges of the rotatable pins. The pins 5 can have middle parts 5b serving as catches for cooperating with a catch mechanism, for forming lower pins for cooperation with corresponding spring-activated upper pins or for serving as locking pins for direct engagement in bores in the lock housing. Further subjects for protection are a grooved key for controlled actuation of the pins, and a method for making such a key from a key blank. <IMAGE> |
