A system providing relatively compact storage for a large number of flat objects such as compact discs or videodiscs (20). The system uses a moving trolley (2) having a gripping device (5) for removing one or more discs (20). The discs (20) are stored in sliding drawers (4) in the storage cabinet (1). Pulling out a drawer enables one or more discs located thereon to be selected. The system may be used in record and video libraries.
